Central Edmonton Homes & Real Estate

As the historic center of Edmonton, Central Edmonton, also called Downtown Edmonton, contains some of the oldest residential districts in the city, not to mention its main commercial and business districts.

The boundaries of central Edmonton are a little unclear, although it is generally accepted that all of the neighborhoods encompassed by Yellowhead Trail to the North, 111 Avenue to the South, 121 Street to the West, and the LRT right of way to the East are included in Central Edmonton.

Real estate is generally quite expensive in central Edmonton, due to the fact that the area contains some of the city's most famous districts, including the arts district, and Churchill Square, Edmonton City Centre (business district), Government Centre (the city's administrative district), Jasper Street (the city's main commercial avenue), McKay Avenue, Rice Howard way, and the Warehouse District.

In addition, the following neighborhoods encompass Central Edmonton; Alberta Avenue, Boyle Street, Central McDougall, Delton, Downtown, Eastwood, Elmwood Park, McCauley, Oliver, Parkdale, Prince Rupert, Queen Mary Park, Riverdale, Rossdale and Spruce Avenue.

Compared to other parts of Edmonton, central evident Edmonton has a relatively low population density despite the city undertaking several rejuvenation initiatives. Even so, the population in the area is slowly rising as a result of Edmonton's booming economy, which has seen a number of new apartment and condominium projects in the area.

Being the downtown core of Edmonton, the area offers every kind of amenities, including some of the city's best educational institutions such as grant MacEwan University, and the University of Alberta. In addition, central Edmonton boast the best transport links in the city with numerous LRT stations dotted around the area and an excellent public bus service. Finally, there are several large public parks in the area offering recreational opportunities to residents and visitors.
