Glastonbury Edmonton Real Estate

Glastonbury, located in West Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is one of the newer residential neighborhoods in this part of the city. Development and construction of the area began in the late 1990s, but due to a further review of the construction plan of the neighborhood, was stopped for several years. It was said that the main reason for this halt in the process was because Council wanted to keep pace with the trending market conditions and development philosophies at that time. However, by the early 2000s, work was continued as demand for new residences grew, with development continuing to this day.

Planners originally sought to achieve a ratio of 60% - 40% of low density residential units and medium density units. However, as of 2008, the proposed housing mix changed due to demand, and now weighs in at 88% for low density units and 12% for medium density units. Today, the neighborhood is still under development to meet the targeted housing mix. Future development of the neighborhood’s eastern zone will see the addition of several medium density residential parcels to maintain the current balance.

Glastonbury Homes and Condos for Sale

Today, the majority of the residences in Glastonbury are single family dwellings, followed by duplex houses, with just a small percentage of row houses and apartments in the area. To make the location more desirable for families, city planners sought to give priority to resident’s living space while designing the neighborhood. As a result, the interior road network was designed around a distributor road which connects to smaller roads and cul-de-sacs to manage the traffic away from residential areas. This ensures a quiet environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city’s traffic.

In the middle of Glastonbury there is a school and park, which were strategically placed to be accessible to all. In addition, there are a variety of recreational centers and schools in the northwestern part of Glastonbury, which can be accessed via Whitemud Drive and Anthony Henday Drive. Meanwhile, lying to the south is the renowned University of Alberta, as well as the third largest mall in the city, Southgate Center, which caters to the shopping, entertainment and recreational needs of many Glastonbury residents.
