Grovenor Edmonton Real Estate

One of the older communities in Edmonton, Grovenor saw construction begin in its southern areas as early as the 1910s. Development of the neighborhood occurred in waves and was a reaction to various things, including the railways expansion and the pre-WWI land boom. Most parts of Grovenor follow the common street grid pattern, while the McKinnon Ravine influenced the layouts of the lots by the ravine in Grovenor.

The area was given the name Grovenor after World War II. However, it is not known where the name Grovenor originated from. Part of the Grovenor community was formerly called Westgrove. During this time, the first homes in this neighborhood were built with a view of the MacKinnon Ravine. Other parts of the community date back to 1910. In the 1940s, the northern section of Grovenor was used for industrial purposes.

Most of Grovenor consists of single-family homes, however since the 1960s redevelopment, other types of homes emerged such as row houses, low-rise apartments, and duplexes. There continues to be an infill of redevelopment in this neighborhood with new residential housing being constructed each decade, bringing with it a variety of types and styles of homes around the community. Many of the residences in this area are owner occupied, while a minority of homes are rented.

Houses Located in Grovenor

Much of the commercial development in this neighborhood is concentrated on Stony Plain Road. There is also a commercial center situated on 149th Street that offers various amenities for residents in the area. In the Grovenor community, residents also have access to the Westminister Jr. High School, Medicentres, Grace Assembly West Edmonton Full Gospel Church, Westgrove Gospel Chapel, and the Grovenor Community League for recreational activities. On the south of Grovenor is McKinnon Ravine, which provides residents with convenient accessibility to North Saskatchewan River Valley through trails and walkways. Grovenor is also nearby the Westmount Mall and can be accessed easily through Edmonton’s downtown, when taking Stony Plain Road.
