Keheewin Edmonton Real Estate

The neighborhood of Keheewin began the bulk of its development in the 1980s and by the 1990s; a majority of the land was completely constructed. Although technically Keheewin started its construction in the 1970s, only 14.2% was completed during that decade. In the 1980s, 62.4% of the residences were built and only about 19.9% of residences were added in the 1990s.

The Keheewin neighborhood has various types of units, although the single-family home is the most common, accounting statistics they account for 49% of the homes inKeheewin. Responsible for 36% of the homes are rented apartments in low-rise condominiums, which are fewer than five stories. Following are row houses, which account for 10% and duplexes, which account for only 4% for homes in the area. A good amount of the homes are owner occupied units (83%) while only 17% are renter occupied.

Keheewin is bounded by 23 Avenue in the north, in the west by 111 Street and bordered on the east by the Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard. The Calgary Trail provides the residents easy access to the Edmonton International Airport while the Gateway Boulevard connects to the University of Alberta, Edmonton’s main arts and entertainment district at Old Strathcona, and the downtown core, all of which are located south of the neighborhood of Keheewin is a close drive by.

Keheewin Home Search

In the north side of the neighborhood you can find the main commercial and business areas along 23rd Avenue. In the same area is the location of Century Park’s Light Rail Transit’s line extension which has not yet been completed.

For amenity services, there are several parks located in the neighborhood, the Kinsmen Twin Arena sports facility, and a school, Keheewin Elementary School, operated by the Edmonton Public School System. Amenities outside the neighborhood can be quite accessible as well due to the neighborhood’s connectivity with significant roadways.

Keheewin named the neighborhood after Chief Keheewin who was part of the Keheween First Nation. In the language of Cree, the name Keheewin means ‘Eagle’.
