Because the neighbourhood was a planned community, just two types of home exist here. Single detached homes are the most prominent type of dwelling Lendrum Place, accounting for some 77% of all dwelling types. In addition, part of the neighbourhood is given over to apartment style abodes, which account for some 23% of all residential buildings today. The area is home to a majority of owner-occupiers (some 73% of residents), although a large number of residents rent their homes (27%).
Residential development in Lendrum Place first began shortly after the end of World War II. It was during these years of early development, between 1945 and 1960, that the neighbourhood acquired its name, after the famous land surveyor Robert Lendrum. At this time, Lendrum Place was but a small, outlying suburb of the city with less than 100 homes, however it soon became gobbled up into the city proper as construction picked up pace during the 1960s.
Several good shopping facilities and commercial areas exist, including the Southgate Shopping Center, located along 111th Street.
Transport links to and from the neighbourhood are excellent. Traveling from the neighbourhood to the city is made easy due to a number of bus routes that pass the neighbourhood, while residents can also access the South LRT extension which runs along the eastern boundary of the neighbourhood and provides a fast means of transportation to the rest of the city.
There are two well known schools in the neighbourhood – Lendrum School and Avalon Junior High School, both of which are run by the City of Edmonton's school system.
