There are a few things you should do before you pick up the phone and call a real estate agent. These things will make your agent's job a little easier and will make the home-buying process easier, too. Here are a few things to do before you call an agent.
Get a Pre-Approval
Before you do anything else, speak with a mortgage company and get a pre-approval. This will help to ensure you the process of finding and buying a home goes smoothly. The mortgage company will give you an idea of what you can realistically afford, so that you will know what to go shopping for.
Study the Real Estate Market
Understanding your local real estate market is a good thing to do before you make that call, too. You should look at some of the online ads and some found in print, as well. This will help you to get a sense of what you will be able to get with the amount you have been pre-approved for. You will also be able to become familiar with a few real estate terms.
Get Your Current Home Ready for Sale
If you are selling a home, along with buying one, you should get it ready before you call your agent. You want to get it as clean as possible, de-clutter and deal with any small repairs. Any areas needing repainted should be done and anything needing replaced should also be done, already.
By getting your home ready to sell, it will be much easier for your agent to get the right pictures, market the home properly and get it sold for you faster. This can make a huge difference if you are selling one home and buying another.
These are just a few of the things you can and should do before you call your real estate agent. If you do everything on this list, your agent will be able to better assist you in the buying and/or selling process.
