Glass Monkey Gastropub

Glass Monkey Gastropub is the brainchild of a chef and a wine expert. This new hangout is all about serving nothing but the best quality food available. You won't find any of the greasy stuff here. Rob Filipchuk, a former wine merchant, and executive chef Darcy Radies got together to bring something that was missing from the Lendrum area. When you dine at this pub it will be unlike any other dining experience you have had.

The menu is very easy to read as it is broken down into three parts: snacks, small plates and desserts. You can order as much or as little as you would like. Try out a variety of different snacks and desserts. Evaluate each one to see what you really like.

At your table you will receive a bowl with roasted almonds, two slices of smoked salmon, olives and horseradish. They almonds are absolutely delicious. They are smoked using salt and paprika, making them very tasty. However, it’s not the almonds that will have you licking your fingers, it’s the salmon. The salmon literally stole the show. It is succulent and will take your breath away. That's how good it is.

The small plates consist of things such as yakitori and fish tacos. There are also large pieces of fish that are cushioned by corn tortillas. The salsa and chipotle mayo give it a nice kick. The chicken skewers on the yakitori are very sweet and tangy. You don't even have to bite into it. The meat is so tender it will just fall off the skewer.

Last but not least, we can't forget dessert. If you love carbs you will love the Jack's Grill bread pudding. It may not be good for your waistline, but it sure is good to your taste buds. It’s sweet and very tasty. The rum sauce really takes it to another level. You will love it!

The Underground Tap & Grill

Do you love beer? Of course, we all know the answer to that question. If you are in Edmonton and have not made your way down to the Underground Tap and Grill you have been missing out. The Underground is home to seventy-two craft beers on tap, which is unheard of in Edmonton let alone Alberta.

The craft beers are separated into four categories:

  • Level 100 - For those new to beer and those that enjoy light beers with a light and crisp taste. One of the top beers in this section is the Full Moon Pale Ale from Edmonton.
  • Level 200 - For those who enjoy pale ales or something with a little bit more of a taste. A great beer in this level is the Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale.
  • Level 300 – Includes porters, stouts and more powerful tastes. A great beer in this category is Dead Man Ale from Oregon.
  • Level 400 – Includes higher alcohol beers and other specialities. A great beer, on this level, is Monk’s Indiscretion.

Do not worry, the Underground also has a great wine and cocktail list for those who don’t enjoy the hoppy goodness that beer offers you.

The Underground also features a full grill which is second to none, with great sandwiches and the excellent entrees. The entrees are big helpings that go well with both the beer and cocktail menus. They have a full week of specials including a very popular wicked Wednesdays special, which feature wings for $5 and 20 oz pours for $5. How can you argue with wings and beer for $10?

Get down to the Underground and experience the best craft beer in Edmonton, while you are there enjoy a tapas and some loaded nachos and call it a night.
