Ekota Real Estate Market

Ekota, developed in the early 1970s, is actually just one of 27 neighbourhoods that are collectively known as Mill Woods, and is located between 23rd Avenue, Mill Woods Road South, 66th Street and Mill Woods Road.

The majority of dwellings in Ekota are single-family homes, many of which are owner-occupied. Very few apartments exist in the area, although there are several commercial properties dotted around the area. In addition, Ekota is within walking distance of the Town Center Mall, which serves the Mill Woods. Like the rest of the neighbourhoods in Mill Woods, Ekota’s interior streets follow a curvilinear patter, while the area itself is bounded on all sides by major roadways, which afford good links to the rest of the district and also the downtown area of the city.

Ekota Community Amenities

As far as services and amenities go, Ekota is well looked after, with a number of churches, day care centers, parks and recreation grounds in its immediate vicinity, as well as one of Edmonton’s major police headquarters (South Division) and the Grey Nuns Community Hospital. Much of the south western part of the neighbourhood is taken up by Father Ivor Daniel Park, one of the largest parks in the city, named after a famous Catholic priest who served as assistant minister at the nearby St. Joachim’s Church, before subsequently serving various ministerial capacities in England, Wales and British Columbia.

Incidentally, the name Ekota actually translates as “Special Place” in the Cree Indian language, and indeed the neighbourhood is characterized by its “neighbourhood as a unit” theme which makes it a very welcoming place for many residents.

Ekota School Information

Ekota is home to both an elementary school, in the center, and a junior high school, in the southwest, which serves several neighboring areas in addition to this one.
