The neighbourhood of Hudson, which is located in north Edmonton, can be found within the Palisades Area Structure Plan. Since the neighbourhoods around the Palisades area follow a corresponding naming convention (being named after famous forts), Hudson derived its name after the Hudson’s Bay Company trading post. Hudson Real Estate Market
There are three neighbourhoods surrounding the Hudson neighbourhood today. The area is bounded by the neighbourhood of Pembina to the west and Cumberland to the north. The Baranow neighbourhood borders Hudson to the east, while the Wellington neighbourhood is located just to the south. Today, the majority of residences in Hudson are single family dwellings (numbering some 78%), while the majority of the rest are duplexes. Almost all residences are owner occupied with only a small percentage currently being rented.
Hudson Community Amenities
Prior to the development of the neighbourhood, the Hudson area was formerly known as the home of Edmonton International Speedway, which was more famously known as Speedway Park. The Edmonton International Speedway was known for its drive-in theater and speedway circuit where many auto track races were regularly held.
The intention for the land development of Hudson was to incorporate the residential lands with the northern Cumberland neighbourhood, while having large business and commercial lands located to the south and west. To ensure easy access to transport links around Hudson, developers built a collector road in the middle of the neighbourhood with sub-roads branching out towards the residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
In the western part of the neighbourhood can be found about a number of diners, cafes, bars, supermarkets and other special services centers. All these recreational facilities are easily accessible for families due to the strategic placing of Hudson’s residential area.
