Ozerna was designed in accordance with a concept that was popular between the 1950s and 1970s. The concept proposes a central school and a central park site that is easily accessible to all residents. In other words, the plan for the entire neighbourhood during its development was to establish facilities that remained within walking distance from the majority of the homes in community.
Following the names of all other neighbourhoods within the Lake District, Ozerna got its name from a foreign term with regards to a body of water. The word "Ozerna" is a Ukrainian term which simply means "lake area". This is due to the fact that the neighbourhood lies over a portion of the Lake District.
Most of the residential units in the neighbourhood nowadays are single detached units. The minority of units is medium density units such as duplexes, low rise apartments, and row houses. People will notice that roads were developed in way to limit traffic in the residencial areas of the community.
Ozerna Neighbourhood Amenities
Guided by the "neighbourhood unit concept," a central park site can be found within the middle of the Ozerna community. A quick walk from the western boundary of the neighbourhood, one will be able to reach the St. John Bosco Catholic School. A short drive south of Ozerna will lead those who tour the area to Londonderry Mall which is also relatively close to the Delwood Park and Josef Children Park. Farther north lays the Anthony Henday Drive which will provide access to various other parts of the Edmonton. The town of Ozerna is serene area that is still developing and improving and is a great place to start a family.
