Riverdale Community

This affluent community averages approximately $88,000, which is well over the city's average income of just over $72,000. The boundaries of the Riverdale are North Saskatchewan River on the east and the south and Boyle Street to the north. This oddly shaped design only has the three boundaries because it follows the curving and winding of the North Saskatchewan River. There was heavy development during the 1970s and steady building until 2001 when the large bulk of the developmental stage began to take place. The Dawson Mines were located across the river, very near the area where the Riverdale Golf Course is located now and the mines employed many residents until it was closed down in 1944. There was also a sever case of flooding in 1915 and while the water was prevented reaching the entire community by the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, there was a lot of structural damage to homes in the area.

There is one public school, Riverdale School, providing services to the community. This rich and fertile area also has four parks in the Riverdale-Dawson Park, Allan Stein Park, Louise McKinney Park, and Louise McKinney Riverfront Park. These parks offer outdoor enthusiasts and children a place to play and enjoy recreational activities including waterfront activities in some areas. The community is located just over a mile away from Fort Edmonton, another highly popular attraction. The community has its own community league, the Riverdale Community League, which was formed in 1920.
