Residency in the area dates back to 1870, when the land on which King Edward Park now stands was used for agricultural purposes. The land was first settled by James Inkster, who, in 1907, sold most of his land. In the year 1909, the City of Strathcona annexed the area to the west of 91st Street. Just two years after this, the City of Strathcona and Edmonton merged, at which point King Edward Park was fully assimilated into the city.

Despite being annexed into the city of Edmonton in 1913, the area remained largely agricultural, with residential development only really kicking off in the 1950s. Following the start of construction, a portion of land located to the east of 75th Street was also annexed to the city of Edmonton. This took place in 1960, and the land was immediately given over to developers and continued to build homes well into the 1970s and 1980s.
