Elmwood Park Real Estate Market
A little over half of the homes in the community are single-family houses, while the rest are condo properties in low-rise structures as well as duplexes. There are also multi-family residences that can be found facing the 82nd Street. The population of the Elmwood Park is extremely mobile. Most of those that reside there are renting and it is quite common for residents to move in and out of the homes in Elmwood Park.
A majority of the earliest residences in the area were built from late 1940s up to the 1950s. Some residential construction occurred in the 1970s as well. During these years, about two thirds of the homes in the community were constructed. The homes constructed at the end of World War II were meant to provide accommodations for returning World War II veterans. Most of these veterans were assigned to plant Elm trees by the boulevards.
Elmwood Park was first known as Grierson Estate, which was named after a man, Edward Delgare “Del” Grierson. However, in 1945, the Elmwood Park was renamed to Elmwood Park.
