The Tawa real estate market is part of the Mill Woods area, which was planned to accommodate commercial establishments in the entire region. The government envisioned a town center with a park and school. About 1/3 of the residences in Tawa are apartments.
The name Tawa comes from the Cree language, which means, "you are welcome". In the past the entire Mill Woods region was once a part of the Cree Papaschase Reserve. Because of this, all neighbourhoods within the area were named to honor words from the Cree language or historic settlers. Hence, the name Tawa neighbourhood was chosen instead of Mill Creek neighbourhood in the past.
Most of the land of the Tawa neighbourhood was used to establish institutional facilities. The majority of the area, most specifically at the center part of the neighbourhood, was used for a hospital and a large school. Residential units surround these two big institutions.
The community of Tawa is close to shopping centers, schools and parks. Mill Woods Town Center is just south of the neighbourhood. Residents can reach the Mill Woods Town Center simply by walking to it that's how close it is to Tawa. Adjacent to the Town Center is the Mill Woods Park and, a lot of other nearby parks. To the South of Tawa is 28 Avenue, the west is 66 Street, to the South is 28 Avenue and to the north is 34 Avenue.
