Oxford Real Estate Market

The neighbourhood got its name from the Oxford House. The Oxford House is considered the Hudson’s Bay Company post in a place which is now known as southwest Manitoba. This is due to the fact that each and every neighbourhood within the Palisades area got their name from the forts and posts that were involved in fur trades.

Before any residential development occurred in the Palisades area, the land where the Oxford neighbourhood stands was once used for agricultural purposes. This is due to the fact that the northern part of the Palisades area is a wetland. This is also the main reason why the northern part of Oxford neighbourhood remains undeveloped.

When buyers look at the neighbourhood today, they notice that almost all of the properties for sale are single family homes. The northern portion of the Oxford community is now strictly monitored by various Provincial regulations with regards to wetland issues and wildlife preservation. This is to ensure that the city is conforming to the Public Lands Act.

Oxford Community Amenities

In addition to residential units, the Oxford neighbourhood offers a central park site which is adjacent to a local school. The park has its own small lake which provides management of storm water while providing additional community amenities at the same time. Another park known as Castle Downs Park lies a short drive east of the southeast corner boundary of the neighbourhood. The EMSA Soccer complex and the Victoria Soccer Club are located at the southwest of the neighbourhood.
