These days, Gold Bar is a mix of residential and commercial development. The most common type of structure found here is the single family dwelling. There are also a number of row houses, especially along the southern boundary. Rented apartments are also present, but they are quite few.

Several businesses can also be found on 50th Street and 101 Avenue. If one is in the mood for some serious shopping, the sprawling Capilano Mall is just a short drive away in the nearby neighbourhood of Ottewell.
There are only two schools in Gold Bar—the Gold Bar Elementary School, which is run by the Edmonton Public School System, and the Mount Carmel Bible School, which is a private Christian post-secondary school.
