Hazeldean Real Estate Market

Much of the housing in Hazeldean is characterized by peaceful tree-lined avenues and streets. A big row housing development was constructed in the 1950s to answer the demand for rental spaces. Residents of Hazeldean can easily access the park system of North Saskatchewan River Valley. Most of the homes in this community are single family houses while the rest are duplexes and row houses.

The community of Hazeldean was annexed by Strathcona City in 1907, and was later merged with Edmonton as a result of the 1912 amalgamation of Strathcona and Edmonton. During that period, the majority of the area, except the huge estate owned by the Irvine family was sectioned with the use of a grid street pattern.

Despite starting early, most of the Hazeldean area stayed undeveloped up to the 1950s. At that time, about 80% of the neighbourhood’s structures that are still standing today were built. Hazeldean is demarcated by 72nd Avenue to the north, the Mill Creek Ravine to the east, 63rd Avenue to the south, and 99th street to the west.

Hazeldean Community Amenities

Many of the commercial establishments in Hazeldean cater to local residents, although there are a number of businesses situated along 63rd Avenue and 99th Street that serve a bigger client base. The well-known Whyte Avenue commercial center can be found north of the community, bordering the neighbourhood of Ritchie. Residents can also access the Argyll Sports Centre for recreational activities, located in the Argyll community. A hospital, The Doctor Gerald Zetter Care Centre is also located in the neighbourhood.

There are two schools in Hazeldean; Ecole J. H. Picard School and Hazeldean Elementary School.
