Single family homes account for about 66% of all dwellings in Gariepy. Other residential structures are duplexes and apartment style condominiums. A small portion of the total residences in the area are row houses. Up to 97% of the dwellings are occupied by the owners, while the remaining homes are rented.
Residential development in Gariepy mostly occurred in the 1970s until early 1980s. Almost half of total residences in the neighbourhood were constructed during the period. The other dwellings were built in the 1980s and the 1990s. The developments have been designed with numerous keyhole crescents with curvilinear roads that allow efficient traffic flow going to and coming from the community. That is why the community can easily be described as one with good urban and residential planning.

There is a school within the neighbourhood, the Centennial School , which is run by the Edmonton Public School System.
