To celebrate the oncoming warmth and sunshine, why not find something fun and exciting to do? Here are five must-see March events in the city of Edmonton to add to your calendar.

Alberta Ballet in Hansel & Gretel

For one March weekend, you can experience the Alberta Ballet's much-anticipated rendition of Hansel & Gretel. The show, which comes in at just under two hours, takes the audience into the popular Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The show is "inspired by the charm of old-fashioned black-and-white movies, with the brilliant energy of a fantastical adventure."

From gingerbread men to the Sandman, the audience is sure to meet a wide range of interesting characters.

Edmonton Craft Beer Festival

For beer enthusiasts, the Edmonton Craft Beer Festival is the March event, featuring over 100 craft breweries and over 500 individual beers. While beer is undoubtedly the show's star, it's hardly the only one. Enjoy everything from wine, cider, spirits, and even mead alongside craft brews. 

There will also be plenty of food to sample at the festival, ranging from hot sauce and barbecue to Mexican and Vietnamese. If you want a little education, you can sign up for a beer seminar, "Let's Meet for a Beer with a Master Brewer" or "Cooking With Beer." And don't forget the live music and after party!

Single-day and weekend passes are available for general admission and VIP options. All general admission tickets include a commemorative sample mug, while packages can include $40 in sample tokens and an after party ticket. Meanwhile, VIP perks include early admission, private washrooms and entrances, access to the VIP lounge, a lanyard, and free admission to each beer seminar.

Musicals: The Sound of Music & Hairspray

If a musical is what you're looking for, you have a couple of great options this month! Broadway Across Canada is bringing the popular Hairspray to Edmonton, while The Citadel Theatre is putting on productions of The Sound of Music!

The Sound of Music follows Maria, who goes from preparing to live a life at an abbey to serving as governess to the seven children of a widowed navy captain. She brings love and music to the house, even as Europe begins to creep towards World War II. This musical brings classics like "My Favorite Things" and "Do-Re-Mi."

Hairspray is a musical comedy tells the story of 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad, who's growing up in 1960s Baltimore and dreams of to dancing on a popular TV show. Popular songs include "Good Morning Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat" — audience members are sure to laugh and tap their feet throughout the show.

One Night With the King

Elvis fans, this Edmonton event is just for you! Elvis Tribute Artist Matt Cage brings his talents to Edmonton for the first time in his personal tribute show, One Night With The King. This builds on his experience playing Elvis in everything from musicals and television to Las Vegas performances. Cage's show takes the audience through the best parts of Elvis' career.

Meals at the Mayfield Theatre are buffet-style, and the selections are expansive for brunch and dinner. The never-ending dessert bar is a highlight, and a full bar accompanies all the delicious options.
