It became popular in the 1930s in the US and there are several restaurants all over the world that serve brunch.

In Edmonton, there are a number of restaurants that have become popular when it comes to serving brunch.

Culina Muttart

This restaurant has gone through a number of different chefs as well as menu changes all within the last 3 years and even though there have been these changes, it still wears the belt as being the top spot for brunch in Edmonton. It's remained at the top of the Avenue's brunch list and some of today's menu items reflect French savvy and you can try some of the best baguette sandwiches.

Some of the things you can enjoy include the salmon with yogurt cheese, sweet fish and horseradish notes and a sauce that makes for a decadent treat. Sweet potato bread toast is both flaky and crusty and if you want something more along the lines of breakfast the breakfast burrito is served with a tomatillo sauce that isn't out of place.

Vintage Fork

The Vintage Fork is a fun breakfast and lunch cafe located in the old Rutherford House on the U of A campus. It can be a bit hard to find, but it is definitely worth the search. Customers love the eclectic decor and rave about the coffee. With many pastries to choose from as well as a menu that changes with the seasons, this is a family friendly restaurant to try in the area. The food is described as delicious and customers are very happy with the service they receive. They have lattesv and scones to go, while also serving multi-course meals for special occasions like Valentine's Day.

Under the High Wheel

This restaurant offers a more open feel and shares the same space as the café, Da Capo which is located in the Whyte building. The restaurant offers an urban aura and the down-home menu lends its feel of a rural diner. Brunch is served until around 4pm and there are many options to choose from.

The chocolate hazelnut crepes sound like an amazing dessert for many and instead there are also Belgian waffles that many have come to favourite. Waffles are served with bacon or even smoked salmon. The salmon compliments the waffles with smokiness and can even complement creamy poached eggs.

Café Bicyclette

This café starts the day being a French Bistro which can be a great place to get your quick on the go sandwich before you head to the Farmers' Market. During the weekends the restaurant offers all day brunch options such as croquet-monsieur which is a grilled cheese served French style.

This café also serves a twist on the classic grilled cheese and is served on a baguette. A more serious and elegant environment sets in during the evening hours and the menu switches to match the dim lighting while some brunch menu items stay on the menu.
