Schonsee is a new, wealthy, residential neighbourhood in the Lake District of the City of Edmonton. The name comes from the German word "schon" which means "beautiful" and the word "see" which means "lake." This community of 300 residents has an average annual income of approximately $82,000, which is well above the city average of just over $72,000.
The boundaries of the neighbourhood are 167 Avenue to the south, 82 Street to the west, 66 Street to the east and 173 Avenue to the north. The surrounding neighbourhoods are Crystallina Nera to the north, Klarvatten to the west, McConachie to the east, Mayliewan to the southwest and Ozerna to the southeast.
Single-family homes make up the majority of all residential buildings, accounting for 100% of all residences in the area. The original owners of the homes occupy all of the residential homes and none of the homes are being rented out. There is a commercial area to the southwest, complete with shopping areas.
There is a large public park located near the center of the neighbourhood where outdoor enthusiasts and children can go to relax. Interior roads are curvy and often end in cul-de-sacs which helps keep the main traffic on the main roads and away from the residential areas. Pathways are placed strategically throughout the area to promote safe pedestrian and bicycle travel.
