The creation of residences commenced before the end of World War II, making Allendale one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Edmonton. Approximately 136 houses were created before the year 1946. Urbanization of the land reached its peak during the 1950s with the construction of more than six-hundred dwellings. Urban development then significantly decreased in the succeeding years, and seized entirely as it reached completion.

Future inhabitants will be pleased to know that there are numerous malls within close proximity of Allendale: Southgate is located at a distance of only 1.9kms from the residential area, while the Rocky Mountain Antique Mall is only 1km away.
Other business establishments and institutions proximate to the neighbourhood include the following: Strathcona Senior High School, Mount Pleasant School, the Magic Lantern Princess Theatre, Casino Edmonton, the Commonwealth Stadium, Victoria Medical Centre, and the Edmonton City Centre (Blatchford Field) Airport.
Within the neighbourhood’s confines is one educational institution; the Allendale Elementary Junior High School, which is operated by the Edmonton Public School System.
