Westbrook Estates is different from the average Edmonton community, as the lots are much larger than normal, something that was done in keeping with the idea that the residences here would in fact be considered ‘Estates’, rather than homes. The homes feature distinctive architectural design that is meant to complement the natural surroundings. There were no cookie cutter developments in this neighbourhood. The area is highly prized because of its mature landscaping and great scenic beauty. The result is that residents here feel as if they belong to a real close-knit community that is proud of areas close-knit and beauty.
Regarding housing types, the majority of buildings here are large three or four bedroom single-family homes. As one would expect for such a desirable neighbourhood, the majority of homes are owner occupied there are a few other building types here, noticeably a few apartments and grow houses, some of these are rented.
The majority of residences at Westbrook Estates are fairly old, having been built between the 1960s and 1980s. As such, the homes, with their older architectural style, add a lot of character and charm to the area.
Unlike other parts of Edmonton, the neighbourhood was given its name by the development company that constructed, hence there is no reference to any prominent persons like many other Edmonton neighbourhoods. Instead, the developers chose the ‘West’ part of the name due to its location just west of Whitemud ravine, while the ‘Estates’ part of the name was added to give a vision of grandeur to the area.
The town center offers many great amenities for residents, but by far and away the best is the derrick Golf and Winter Club. Residents don't even have to be golfers to appreciate the wonderful natural beauty of golf club, as there is also an extensive area of recreational Park land adjacent to it. Numerous pathways exist which make the parkland area popular with walkers and cyclists. Truly, this gem helps make Westbrook Estates one of the most elegant neighbourhoods in the city of Edmonton.
