Today, Grandview Heights still exudes a little bit of that 1960s charm. The current plans of subdivision still dates from that time. A considerable number of houses here have that 1960s “executive” style. Most of the homes are single-unit and almost all of them are owner-occupied.
The name Grandview Heights fits the place quite perfectly. It truly offers splendid views, especially from the north and west borders where river and creek valleys can easily be seen. Grandview Heights has a favorable location. On the north, it is bounded by the North Saskatchewan River Valley, while the Whitemud Creek Ravine sits on the western boundary. On the south and east, it is bounded by the expansive University of Alberta Farm.
Since Grandview Heights is bounded by parkland, it’s a great place for outdoor activities, such as cycling and roller-blading. Even in the winter, one can never run out of outdoor diversions. Locals can cross country ski on the West 240—or if sledding is preferred, residents can be found wasting hours at the toboggan hill at Whitemud Park.
Most of the recreational and commercial facilities can be found in the southwestern portion of the neighbourhood. There are also four outdoor tennis courts for the use of community league members—and a rink where residents can skate and play hockey during winter.
There is one school run by the Edmonton Public School System—the Grandview Heights Elementary and Junior High School, which is adjacent to a spacious playground and park.
