Brookside Real Estate Market

The neighbourhood mostly comprises of single detached dwellings. Most of those houses are executive style properties in 1970s vintage, complete with mature landscaping and above average scale of lots. About 83% of all homes are single family homes. The rest are row houses and rented apartments. About 80% of all dwellings are occupied by owners.

Brookside Community History

The entire area was annexed into Edmonton in 1960. The following year, it was included in a phased development plan covering southwest Edmonton’s Riverbend portion.  Development of Brookside went ahead of the plan. In 1968, it became subject to a re-plot plan. That was an advantage because the community was quickly developed after. In 1969, the neighbourhood was made part of the Riverbend-Terwillegar Heights Outline Plan, the first planned residential areas on a large scale. By 1970, almost half of all residential units were constructed. By 1980, development of the remainder was completed.

Brookside Community Amenities

Most of recreational and educational facilities of Brookside are situated along the northern portion of 53rd Avenue, adjacent to numerous row houses and apartments. There are strategically placed pathways. The Whitemud Freeway in the western boundary facilitates access to commercial and employment centers. Bicycle and pedestrian movement is easily and conveniently facilitated throughout the neighbourhood. Efficient travel is also ensured to and from the community so that going to amenities in other communities can be easier.

Brookside School Information

There is one public school operated by Edmonton Public School System. Children in the community can enroll at Brookside Elementary School.
