Today, Steinhauer remains largely residential and the most common type of dwelling is the single family house. The rest are row houses, but there is also one duplex in the neighbourhood.
It wasn’t until after 1970 when development started in Steinhauer. In fact, most of the houses in the neighbourhood were built between 1971 and 1980. Like most neighbourhoods at that time, Steinhauer has a curvilinear street pattern where blocks of residential land cluster around a centrally located school and park site.
The neighbourhood is bounded to the north by 34th Avenue, to the south by a utility corridor right-of-way, to the east by Calgary Trail, and to the west by 111th Street.
Amenity-wise, Steinhauer is served by the Century Park LRT Station along 111 Street. Steinhauer has a small shopping plaza, but residents also have easy access to other retail and service outlets at the Southgate Shopping Centre which is just a 10-minute drive away. There are also a handful of other shopping malls in nearby communities such as the Ermineskin Shopping Centre in Ermineskin and the Petrolia Mall in Greenfield.
Charming, peaceful, and just minutes away from desirable amenities, Steinhauer is a pleasant community with friendly people—truly a nice place for starting a family. It is also close to some of Edmonton’s loveliest neighbourhoods and it sits adjacent to some of Edmonton’s bustling industrial parks.
The neighbourhood also has a school—the Steinhauer Elementary School which is run by the Edmonton Public School System.
