Although the neighbourhood was originally planned to accommodate only single-family units, nowadays there several multi-family homes in the area, however the majority are still single-family homes. In addition, Sweet Grass also has some row houses and various apartment complexes within the neighbourhood. In other words, the entire neighbourhood is a majority of various residential units with the single-family dwellings as the majority.
The name of the neighbourhood was given to it in order to honor the Cree Indian Chief named Sweet Grass. He played a significant role in protecting the endangered bison of the plains was well respected in the entire area before he died.
Even though the community does not have any commercial establishments, residents can go to the 111th Street, which is east of the neighbourhood and purchase goods from the commercial establishments over there.
There are two commercial malls that residents can choose from: the Petrolia Mall and the Southgate Center. The nearest is the Petrolia Mall which is part of the Greenfield neighbourhood north of the Sweet Grass neighbourhood. Farther north of Sweet Grass is the Southgate Center, which is bigger than the Petrolia Mall. Beside the western boundary of the Sweet Grass neighbourhood, locals will be able to reach the Whitemud Creek Ravine South.
There is an elementary school at the center part of the neighbourhood and adjacent to the school are some recreational zones and parks. The University of Albert South Campus is north of the neighbourhood and can be reached after passing Whitemud Drive.
